In particular during the sweltering summer months when one can take pleasure in a pleasant walk up the cascade and a cooling dip into the natural pools along the way, the Krushùna Falls will provide a great opportunity for a full-day vacation from the city. The falls, the biggest travertine cascades in Bulgaria, are distinguished by their gorgeous surroundings, rich flora, various terraces with a circular shape, and little natural pools with mineral water.
About 20 meters high, the main waterfall divides into several smaller ones as it flows down the softer limestone cliffs. There is a route that leads tourists up the river to the waterfall’s spring, which is concealed in a cave. There are steps and bridges along the route to allow for the greatest views of the cascades, pools, and moss-covered rocks. In the 8th to 14th centuries, Christian hermits practicing Hesychasm, an Eastern Orthodox mystical tradition of meditation in seclusion, lived in a few old caves in the cliffs near the Krushuna Falls. The cave near the waterfalls has a sizable open chamber that is lit by seven holes in the ceiling.
Near the waterfalls lies the lovely karst cave known as Devetàshka. Devetàshka differs from other caves in that it is well illuminated, especially in the spring and summer, and its floor is covered in lush vegetation, making it occasionally difficult to realize that one is underground. The excursion will depart from your accommodation early in the morning. Your knowledgeable guide will drive you to the waterfalls. Your visit to the site will be followed by lunch at a nearby eatery. You will then proceed to the cave. You’ll return to Sofia later.
